Sale and updates on Elizabeth's Attic

For those of you new to my blog

A Northern Hug

My good friend and web designer Mike Cowburn of the company Communisage has added Elizabeth's Attic shop link button to my blog, so now there is no excuse for not paying me a visit when in need of some inspiration or something different not found in the high street shops.

When looking through the latest addition of Vintage Explorer I came across an article  'Random Year' 1969 and I felt the excitement once again, that this year brought me.  This was the year that man landed on the moon.  I stayed up all night to watch this magnificent event wrapped up in a quilt sitting on the sofa with a flask by my side and my dad shouting down stairs from the warmth of his bed 'Have they landed yet'? Apollo 11 launched from the Kennedy Space Centre, Florida, on July 16th and landed in the 'Sea of Tranquility' on the 20th.  Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin Junior, walked on the surface the next day fulfilling President John F Kennedy's goal of reaching the moon before the Soviet Union by the end of the 1960s and it also brought with it my love of all things Science Fiction.  My greatest wish is to travel into space and see for myself the wonders of the Universe - sadly I do not think this will ever happen but I can dream.

Also mentioned in this article is Concorde The live televised test flight was in France on the 2nd March 1969 and the supersonic airliner broke the sound barrier for the first time on the lst October.  Concorde began service as a commercial aircraft in 1976 and continued for the next 27 years.  Its retirement flight was on the 6th November 2003.  I was fortunate to see this magnificent aircraft at Manchester Airport but unfortunately never managed a flight aboard.

Did you know the first quartz wristwatch was also in 1969.  Seiko had been working on quartz timekeeping technologies since 1958.  In December 1969 they produced the 'Astron', the wold's first quartz wristwatch.  It sold for a staggering 450,000 yen which was equivalent to the cost of a small car at the time.  Their accuracy and reduced cost of production has resulted in the proliferation of quartz watches since that time.

Monty Python's Flying Circus.  The innovative and anarchic television comedy show that was inspired in part by the comedian Spike Milligan was first broadcast on the 5th October 1969 on BBC one.  Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam Graham Chapman and the comody genious John Cleese created and starred in the show which ran for 45 episodes between 1969 and 1974.

More great events include Cinema: Kes set in Yorkshire and contemporary to the late 1960s, Kes initially suggest that even a dreprived, working class, poorly educated shool leaver with no real prospect of a fulfilling job just might find something to rescue him from a certain bleak future.

News of the World newspaper first ran hot off the press in 1969 - Tube Chair by Joe Columbo and 'Chair' by Allen Jones both contemporary furniture way before its time.

But without a doubt Easy Rider, released at the end of the decade that perhaps saw more cultural change than any other before or since.  Easy Rider chronicles the hippie ideology at about the time that it began to break down.  The iconic motorcycles used were stripped down (chopped), Harley Davidsons.  They caused a huge resurgence of interest in visually exciting customised motorbikes wherever the film was shown.

So now! what do you remember about the 1960s were you a twinkle in your mothers eye or were you like me still in school. I left school in the summer of 1969 ready to make my mark on society but too late to be part of the swinging 60s..... As the old saying goes if you can remember the swinging 60s you were most certainly not part of it.....

I don't think there has been an era with such diverse events or am I just bias? let me know your thoughts.

I just wanted to share these with you and I now wish you a lovely Sunday and enjoy the rest of you week - I do believe the weather is on the up.... so get out and about and take a look at what is around you because one day someone will be writing an article on a 'Random Year 2012'

Take care, keep safe by happy.

Vibrant Vintage

My good friend Victoria

Vibrant Vintage by Victoria Claire burst on to the scene in April 2011.  Like most people who sell vintage, Victoria began as an avid customer, often travelling to York, Durham, Norwich and London in pursuit of the unusual.  Commenting on her lovely collection of 50s dresses, several people (including me) suggested that she open a shop and, with her parents as business partners, within three weeks of mooting the idea, Vibrant Vintage by Victoria Claire was a reality.

Selling a wide range of ladies' and men's vintage clothing at Westhoughton indoor market in Bolton, Lancashire every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the team was soon to host its own vintage fairs, with two last year and a further four planned in the Bolton area later this year, starting with Sunday 4th March.  The second on Sunday 27th May, will have a jubilee theme in the run-up to the nationwide celebrations, and there will be two more later in the year.  If you are unsure of how to wear your vintage garments, there will be an intimate vintage fashion show this summer.

Vibrant Vintage have recently joined a new networking group established by Kitty Wink Vintage, for the areas of Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire.  At the first meeting in January they discussed ideas for development of the group vintage events, and how to help promote members' businesses which included Elizabeth's Attic. along with  Dolly Cool a designer of cool jewels and accessories for Rockin' Gals along with  Rebbecca an events organiser Polka Dots & Pearls and to assist one another as a collective.  It looks as if a vintage cocktail party with the proceeds going to charity could well be on the cards.

I thought you might like to meet more of my Vintage Friends who are based in the North West

Vanessa who creates hand made items with love and care
Catwalk Creative Vintage  for clothing, accessories, jewellery and home ware
Bethany Vintage hair and make-up artist
Fiona Shabby chic, vintage and antique furniture (as seen in Vogue)
And last but not least

You now have no excuse not to

Live the Vintage Life......

Until Next Time

Keep safe....

Bolton Vintage Fair

Yesterday was the 3rd
Bolton Vintage Fair

Although the weather was not what we expected
Sunshine on Saturday
Rain on Sunday
Sunshine today
Typical.....

We had high hopes that 'Build it and they will come'

This is Leah setting up for her first vintage fair

So we built it and they came
If not in there thousands but in hundreds.

These are some of Leah's treasures
I was excited to see the red glasses as I received some as
wedding presents in 1975
and like all good domestic goddess I used them for
Prawn Cocktails....

This is the rail of dresses I had taken
Can you spot the 70s hot pant suit?
Such a pity that the shorts have such a small waist that
No one could fit into them

So if you have a small waist then these are just waiting for you.

As I said today is sunny so I am off now to the
garden centre to drool over the seeds for
this years garden plants.

See you back here real soon
Until then

Take care, keep safe, well and happy.....

Warning! never leave your back door open

Or you just might get
more than you bargain for....

 Tom the lodger...

This little fella belongs to my neighbour but he seems to have taken up residence in my lounge.

How did this start? and you might well ask!

Last Thursday he found his way into my garden - He seemed to be enjoying the peace and quiet as his little lady friend had just delivered 5 babies and things were a little noisy at home.  I made the mistake of befriending him and sitting chatting to him while hanging out my washing (hanging out washing in February - never been known before) anyway I digress....he is such a lovely cat even though he does tend to chase the birds and on one occasion got lucky with a pigeon (but I won't hold that against him)we became buddies but he has never come into the house before.  I left the back door open while doing some chores and when I came down stairs I got such a shock to see him all curled up and having 40 winks.... Oh well I suppose I better go and 'chuck' him out now or his mum will think he has run away with the circus....

Enjoy this lovely early spring weather and I do believe lambing has started early so pray we don't get a cold snap.

Enjoy the rest of your week - and remember keep those doors closed.

Take care, keep safe, well and happy

Art Exchange and Ducks!

If you remember a couple of weeks ago I spoke of an Art Exchange that I had joined and here are the lovely items I received from my exchange partner Sheena pink pearl necklace

This lovely pink crochet scarf/collar (although with today's temperature it could be a while before I wear it) but lovely all the same.

Red cute beret - Some people are just so clever.

Speaking of warmer days - My friend who is a keen photographer and I went out for a walk round our local Nature Park during last week and thought we would feed the ducks. Oh boy were they hungry, I have never got up close and personal with Canada Geese before and they are a scary bunch - A couple could have been given an ASBO they were so cheeky.

'What you got in your bag missus?'

'Race you - bags first crust!'

'Got an itch - Ah that's better!'

If the papers are to believed and we do get a wonderful Spring then Spring Cleaning can wait - I for one will be off out to feed the ducks - best take a body guard though....

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and see you back here real soon.

Take care, keep safe, be happy....

I did it.....

I did it....

Did what? ....

You ask.....

I sold a dress from my shop - You good ladies must have been sending me good Karma because no sooner had I posted on my blog for your advice on my shop and if you thought I should change anything then I actually sold a dress.  I was silly I removed the dress from my photos folder so I cannot show the actual dress but if you go back to my archives you will see it was that lovely green psychedelic 70s dress with the lovely pointed collar.

I was so over the moon I did a little celebration dance - now that was a sight to behold.

I just thought I would let you know the good news and also if anyone out there is feeling despondent about goals not being met then trust me hang on in there say a prayer and miracles do happen.

Another reminder of the upcoming fair in Bolton on the 4th march you will find me and my vintage loving friends with our history and nostalgia having a ball.

Until next time

Keep safe, well and happy
